Peterson Gunning For Another Record On Monday Night

Posted Oct 20, 2013

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been assaulting the record books since he entered the NFL in 2007. On Monday night against the NY Giants, Peterson has another opportunity to re-write the record book.

With 103 rushing yards against the Giants on Monday night, Peterson will become the Vikings franchise leader in career rushing yards on Monday Night Football. Peterson currently ranks third in team history in this category with 527 yards on MNF, a total that is 74 yards behind Robert Smith’s 601 and 102 behind Chuck Foreman’s 629.

An impressive side note to this is that Peterson is poised to break this record in just his eighth career MNF game, while it took Smith 11 games to get to his total and it took Foreman 12 games to get to his.

As for the team who will try to stop Peterson from attaining this record, the Giants have faced Peterson three previous times – the season finale in both 2008 and 2009 and then in Week 14 of the 2010 season. Peterson has 183 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 44 attempts against the Giants in his career.
