Game Week! Vikings Begin Prep for Detroit

Posted Sep 4, 2013

It’s been almost eight months, but the Vikings are right back into the swing of things. The last time the Vikings prepared for a game it was the first week of January and the team was getting ready for Wild Card Weekend.

The Vikings march toward a second consecutive playoff berth has technically already begun, but since it’s the first Wednesday before the first game, today marks the beginning of the first game week of 2013. In an ordinary regular season week, teams flip their calendars from one game to the next at some point on Tuesday. Monday is used to rehash what happened the day prior by analyzing the film and discussing issues in meetings. By Wednesday, the coaching staff has figured out solutions to problems that arose the week prior and they’ve devised a game plan for the next opponent.

After a few days off following their preseason finale, the Vikings gathered for a brief practice on Monday and then had Tuesday off. Today they will begin their regular game week schedule, with morning walk-throughs and afternoon practices on Wednesday and Thursday and then a morning practice on Friday followed by a walk-through on Saturday to finalize preparation for Sunday’s game.

Following the Wednesday walk-throughs, Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier and quarterback Christian Ponder will hold their customary press conferences. Following the Thursday walk-throughs, the Vikings three coordinators will hold their customary press conferences. Also on Thursdays, both Jared Allen and Adrian Peterson will be available to reporters in the locker room.

Through it all, and the Vikings Entertainment Network will have wall-to-wall coverage, including live coverage of the press conferences, player interviews and my reports from practice. Also, our regular programming returns to a regular schedule. This week’s Pick 6 is posted which you can watch above, Joe Webb joined the latest Wobcast, and the Monday Morning Mailbag addressed fan questions. Also, on Tuesday’s you can catch our run-around the division, a look at where the Vikings stand in the power rankings and plenty of early game preview notes, including a look at the top five storylines to watch during the week.
