Winter Park Rewind: June 10-13

Posted Jun 15, 2013 looks back on the week what was at Winter Park via a new feature appropriately titled "Winter Park Rewind."

June 10

As always, the week started off with Mike Wobschall addressing fan comments and questions via the Monday Morning Mailbag.  OTAs are a main topic of course but the topic of the club possibly trading Toby Gerhart also comes up.

Wobschall also gives his take on OTA No. 7, which wrapped up early Monday afternoon.  WR Stephen Burton was one player who stood out according to Wobschall, who also gives praise to TE Kyle Rudolph and DE Letroy Guion for their performances on the day.

After practice wrapped up we caught up with second-year safety Harrison Smith, who talked about the on-going OTA process, "running to the ball," how this year compares to a year ago as a rookie and more.

In advance of OTA No. 8, Wobschall talked about Head Coach Leslie Frazier and his staff welcoming six coaches to Winter Park as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship Program.

After Tuesday’s practice, Head Coach Leslie Frazier announced that Pro Bowl LB Chad Greenway is getting his knee scoped on Wednesday and will be out of action until training camp.

After Monday’s practice we taped an interview with Greenway which also includes highlights of the eighth-year veteran prior to him bowing out of the remaining OTAs and next week’s mandatory minicamp.

We also talked with another key member of the Vikings defense, Brian Robison, about the team's high attendance at OTAs, getting better this offseason, taking on more of a leadership role now as a veteran and more.

The second-to-last OTA of 2013 got off to an epic start thanks to Jerome Simpson’s Superman-style diving touchdown catch that you can watch here:

Fans may or may not remember that Simpson made a similar catch last year during OTAs, so we put it to a vote to see which one fans thought was better.  See the results here.

In addition to Simpson’s fantastic catch, we put together a full highlight video from the practice which you can watch here.

On the final day of OTAs, Wobschall looked back at eight players -- including four wide receivers -- that stood out heading into next week's three-day mandatory minicamp.

We also caught up with rookie DT Sharrif Floyd. He touched on who he goes to for advice and what he learned during the ten OTAs.

Our final OTA interview was with Christian Ponder, who talked about the club adding some wrinkles to the offense and much more.

Not OTA related but the Vikings Children's Fund Golf Tournament took place (despite the rain) this week.  Watch a video recap of the event:

While Greg Jennings wasn't around every day this week, we did manage to get video of him thanks to NFL Network.  In this piece, NFL Network's Michelle Beisner, who isn't much of a golfer, challenges Jennings to a handstand contest. This video is worth watching if only to check out Jennings' electric pants.

What's Next?

As previously mentioned, the Vikings regroup next Tuesday-Thursday for the team's three-day mandatory minicamp where all players are expected to take part.  We'll continue to provide daily videos, blog recaps, photo galleries and more, and we even have a few twists in store for next week that fans should get a kick out of, so make sure to check back.
