Drafted with the 34th selection of the 2010 NFL Draft, Cook started 31 of the 38 games he played at the University of Virginia. He served as a team captain in 2009 and was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference 1st-team selection, starting all 12 games and recording four interceptions that season. Cook is the highest CB drafted by the Vikings since Dewayne Washington was selected with the 18th overall pick in 1994.
Griffen, selected by the Vikings in the 4th round (#100 overall), entered the NFL Draft following his junior season at the University of Southern California. He was the only defensive lineman selected by the Vikings in the 2010 draft and was the highest USC player drafted by the Vikings since DE Kenechi Udeze was taken #20 overall in 2004. Griffen helped the Trojans win back-to-back Pac-10 titles in 2007 and 2008 and led USC to Rose Bowl victories in both years. He totaled 18.0 sacks and 84 tackles in three years at USC.
DeGeare, the 161st overall pick in the draft, spent three years at guard before moving to left tackle during his final season at Wake Forest. He was the only offensive lineman selected by the Vikings in the 2010 NFL Draft. DeGeare was the first Wake Forest player drafted by the Vikings since DT Fred Robbins in 2000. He earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors after starting all 12 games during his redshirt senior season.
Shuler, the 214th overall pick in the draft, becomes the first Penn State player to be selected by the Vikings since 1994. Shuler is a 2nd-generation NFL player as his father, Mickey Shuler Sr., spent 13 seasons in the NFL. As a senior he earned Academic All-Big Ten Conference honors while recording two touchdowns.
The Vikings have now signed seven of the team’s eight draft choices: Cook, Griffen, DeGeare, and Shuler, as well as 5th-round LB ![]()
