Prior to tonight’s game, the Minnesota Vikings will become the first Minnesota professional sports team and only the 32nd Minnesota company to be proclaimed a Yellow Ribbon Company by the State of Minnesota.
As part of the broader Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program (www.beyondtheyellowribbon.org), a Yellow Ribbon Company (logo attached) unites key areas within the organization for the purpose of proactively supporting Servicemembers, veterans, and military families in the workplace. Companies must develop a sustainable action plan that demonstrates its commitment to leverage existing support activities, build awareness and take action to recognize and support those Servicemembers and their families. The Vikings, who consistently support military members in various ways throughout each season, have established a comprehensive plan involving front office personnel from multiple departments to be proactive in exhibiting that support.
“The Vikings have always been committed to recognizing and supporting veterans, but becoming a Yellow Ribbon Company allows us to continue our support in a very coordinated and visible fashion,” said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf. “It is a tremendous honor to become the first professional sports team in Minnesota to receive this recognition, and we look forward to fully implementing our plan.”
“Since 9/11, thousands of Minnesotans have served in our nation's military,” said Annette B. Kuyper, Minnesota National Guard's Director of Military Outreach. “By developing a Yellow Ribbon Network within the company, the Minnesota Vikings have created a support system for employees affected by military deployments and demonstrated their commitment to support Service members and military families in the workplace.”
Prior to kickoff, a “Yellow Ribbon Proclamation Ceremony” will take place on the field with Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, Minnesota Army National Guard Adjutant General Major Richard Nash and Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf. Media are invited to cover the presentation of the proclamation on the field at approximately 7:15 p.m. Following the presentation, General Nash and Secretary Richie, along with Vikings Senior Corporate Sales Manager Marc Morgan, will be available to the media for brief comments.
