Vikings Become 1st NFL Team To Partner With Mamava, Install Lactation Suites For Breastfeeding Moms

Eden Prairie, MN (September 22, 2015) – The Minnesota Vikings will be the first NFL franchise to install Mamava lactation suites for nursing mothers in an NFL stadium. The team will also install pods at the Winter Park training facility and headquarters in Eden Prairie and the downtown Minneapolis office location.

“Creating a family-friendly environment and a positive experience for all fans at our football games is paramount to the Minnesota Vikings,” said Vikings Chief Operating Officer Kevin Warren. “While we certainly encourage breastfeeding mothers to nurse where they feel comfortable, we have become increasingly aware of the need many moms have for the privacy and comfort that these Mamava lactation suites provide. In addition, we are always striving to create the most positive workplace environment within our organizations and the pods at our two headquarters will benefit many of our female employees.”

The Vikings will install four Mamava suites; two will reside in the Vikings corporate offices and two will be located at TCF Bank Stadium in 2015. The pods are expected to arrive and be installed in time for the Vikings-Chiefs game on October 18. The Vikings plan to further create a family-friendly environment within U.S. Bank Stadium with the continuation of the lactation suites and are exploring a nursing area that will allow moms to stay connected to the game.

Created by Mamava, a company dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding by making it easier for more women to achieve their breastfeeding goals, the unit is a self-contained, mobile pod with comfortable benches, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot suite is meant for individual use but can fit mothers with babies and other children in tow.

“Until now female NFL fans who have wanted privacy for feeding have had to nurse or pump in a bathroom, or worse yet, stay home due to the lack of amenities for nursing” said Sascha Mayer, co-founder of Mamava. “We believe that all mamas deserve a safe, clean and comfortable place to use a breast pump or breastfeed – anywhere, anytime. Mamava pods provide flexibility for facilities and easy access for moms.”

The suites will provide support not just to NFL employees and fans but also for attendees of other events, including Gophers football and Super Bowl LII in 2018.
