Power Rankings Roundup: Vikings Drop Again

Posted Sep 24, 2013

We cruise around the interweb to see where various sites and experts have the Vikings slotted in their weekly power rankings...

ESPN

26. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 23rd) - Minnesota's pass defense is a mess. No one has allowed as many passing touchdowns as the Vikings (nine). Worse yet, Brian Hoyer threw for 321 yards in Sunday's Browns victory.

27. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 20th) - The next 13 games are Christian Ponder's 2014 job interview. When you lose to the Brian Hoyer-led Browns at home, you can't exactly think about playoff scenarios.

27. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 26th) - Minnesota Vikings fans were calling for backup Matt Cassel on Sunday; then Christian Ponder started running, and the Vikings climbed back into the contest against the Browns. Unfortunately, neither those fans nor NFL analysts are seeing development in Ponder's overall game; that lack of progress is making things harder for Adrian Peterson. The quarterback's struggles also mean the team must rely on the defense to make plays -- which it has not been able to do effectively. With home games versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers coming up, there is the potential for the Vikings to recover from their 0-3 start. Still, this squad certainly missed an opportunity against the Brian Hoyer-led Browns.

30. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 25th) - Adrian Peterson is averaging just 93.6 yards per game and, believe it or not, that is better than his 230 rushing yards after the first three weeks last season. 2,000 yards is still a reality for All Day in 2013.

29. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 25th) - It's not a good sign when the hometown fans are yelling for a Brian Hoyer trade.
