Adrian Peterson was named the NFL MVP for the 2012 season during the 2nd Annual NFL Honors banquet in New Orleans, La. After rupturing his ACL and MCL on December 24, 2011, Peterson bounced back to post the 2nd highest rushing total in NFL history with 2,097 yards paired with 13 total TDs. Peterson earned the NFL’s rushing title, the 2nd of his career (2008).

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized as the league’s most valuable player,” said Peterson. “While the award is considered an individual achievement, I couldn’t have had the success that I did without my teammates, my coaches and the Vikings organization. I’m blessed to be a member of the Vikings, and I hope next year we can get the ultimate team award by bringing a Super Bowl championship to Minnesota.”

"As an organization, we are extremely proud of Adrian's accomplishments this past season," said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf. "He is a great representative of the Minnesota Vikings both on and off the field, and we want to congratulate him on this incredible honor."

In addition to being named MVP, Peterson was also named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, the FexEx Ground Player of the Year, and the NFL Fantasy Player of the Year.

Peterson led the Vikings to the biggest single-season turnaround in team history going from 3 wins in 2011 to 10 wins in 2012, along with a the team’s 1st playoff berth since 2009. The 6th year player from Oklahoma set the NFL record for most rushing yards in 10 consecutive games with 1,598 yards, as well as tying the NFL records for most 50 yard runs (7) and the most games with 150 rushing yards (7) in a season.

Peterson joins QB Fran Tarkenton (1975) and DT Alan Page (1971) as the only Vikings to win the Associated Press NFL MVP award. Peterson is also the 1st RB to win MVP since LaDainian Tomlinson did so in 2006 breaking a streak of 5 straight years where a QB won the award. The Palestine, Texas native becomes the 16th different RB gain the honor.
