Peterson Doubtful For Sunday’s Finale; Gerhart and Cole Ruled Out

Posted Dec 27, 2013

During his post-practice press conference on Friday, Head Coach Leslie Frazier announced that Adrian Peterson would be listed as doubtful heading into Sunday’s season finale against the Lions at Mall of America Field.

“He was okay,” Frazier said of how Peterson looked during Friday’s final practice of the week. “He did okay yesterday. Probably going to put him at doubtful for this game.”

When pressed on if this was an organizational decision to rest the team’s franchise player in a game with little on the line, Frazier said that wasn’t the case.

“If he could play, just like last week, he’d be out there,” Frazier said. “If we felt like he was ready to go, he’d be out there on Sunday.”

Peterson’s backup, Toby Gerhard, has been ruled out of Sunday’s game due to him reinjuring his hamstring last week vs. the Bengals. Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard will shoulder the load at running back for the Vikings this week.

Audie Cole, who suffered an ankle sprain last weekend, has also been ruled out.

Joining Peterson in the ‘doubtful’ category is DT Letroy Guion, who missed practice all week with a quadriceps injury.

CBs Xavier Rhodes and Shaun Prater were both limited in practice on Friday and are questionable for Sunday’s game.

All others for the Vikings are probable: LB Larry Dean (knee), DT Fred Evans (knee), S Harrison Smith (foot / groin), RB Matt Asiata (ankle), CB Chris Cook (knee), FB Jerome Felton (knee), G Brandon Fusco (knee), WR Cordarrelle Patterson (chest) and CB Marcus Sherels (shoulder).

For the Lions, their own superstart, WR Calvin Johnson, didn't practice all week due to a knee injury and will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game.

Joining Megatron in the questionable catagory is CB Jonte Green. DE Isreal Idonije and T LaAdrian Waddle have both been ruled out, while CBs Bill Bentley and Chris Houston are doubtful. The following players are all probable: S Louis Delmas, LB DeAndre Levy, RB Joique Bell, S John Wendling, G Dylan Gandy, CB Chris Greenwood, CB Rashean Mathis, and CB Darius Slay.
