Vikings rookie Cordarrelle Patterson was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September today by the NFL. The award is only the 2nd presented to a Vikings return man in team history, the last coming in Septemeber 2012 when Percy Harvin was honored. Patterson marks the 2nd Vikings rookie to win the award in as many months as Blair Walsh claimed the honor in December 2012.
Patterson currently ranks #1 in the NFL with a 33.8-yard average on kickoff returns and tied the Vikings record with a 105-yard KO return TD at Chicago on the opening kickoff. The return is tied for the longest in the NFL this season.
