2017 Draft Order Determined for Non-Playoff Teams

Posted Jan 4, 2017

MINNEAPOLIS — The Vikings 2016 season has come to a close.

Now, attention will turn to the team’s offseason preparations for the 2017 NFL Draft.

The order of selections in the NFL Draft is determined by reverse order of finish. Therefore, the order of selection for the 20 non-playoff-bound teams has been determined. The order of the 12 teams that have made the postseason will be determined as some advance and others are eliminated.

The Vikings (8-8) currently have eight selections in the 2017 NFL Draft. They do not have a first-round pick because it was sent to Philadelphia as part of the trade to acquire QB Sam Bradford, but the Vikings do have one additional pick in both the third and fourth rounds, which were attained in other trades.

Minnesota and Indianapolis finished with identical records and the same strength of schedule, pushing the tiebreaker to a coin toss that will take place later.

Cleveland (1-15) will have the No. 1 overall pick in April.

San Francisco (2-14) will be in the second spot. The Bears’ loss to the Vikings on Sunday slotted Chicago (3-13) for the third overall spot.

Jacksonville (3-13) will be fourth by virtue of the strength of schedule tiebreaker.

The Los Angeles Rams (4-12) are slated to select fifth, but that pick was acquired by Tennessee.

Here is the order for the teams whose seasons ended Sunday:

1. Cleveland (1-15)
