Jaymar Johnson Conference Call

12/14/2005

Conference Call – 6th-Round Pick WR Jaymar Johnson

Q: Were you surprised to go to the Vikings?

A: I was kind of shocked because other teams were calling and saying different things, and then the Vikings called with their pick.  I’m real happy to be a Viking right now because they’ve got Tarvaris (Jackson).  He played at Alabama State in the SWAC Conference and they’ve got a great system and everything.  Chris Jones, who played receiver here at Jackson State and he played with the Vikings.  I just got off the phone with him and he was telling me how much of a good organization the Vikings were.  I met the coach at the combine and I believe the Vikings are a good fit.

Q: Some of the scouts say guys with your size are too small for the NFL.  How do you take that?
A: I took it as motivation.  I use that as energy and I use that to work harder, to better myself and everything.  I’m still using that as energy to feed off of.

Q: I saw that you returned kicks and punts, but do you feel you are better in one of those areas right now?
A: I would say punt returner, but I’m good as well at kickoff return.  If I have to think of better, it may be at punt returner.

Q: What was your last 40 time that you ran?
A: The last 40 time I ran was a 4.41 for one of the teams down here at Jackson State.

Q: One of the things they say about you is that you have big-play capability.  Is that kind of the role that you see for yourself here, as the guy who will take streak patterns?
A: Actually to be honest, I’ll play any role they want me to play.  I’m willing to do any and everything to stay a part of the Vikings organization.  I’m going to do whatever it takes no matter what they need me to do.

Q: Obviously they have some depth here at a lot of positions, but are you capable of doing some special teams coverage?
A: Yes sir.  Like I said, I’m willing to do any and everything that they request of me, and not just do it, but do it effectively.
