Wilf and Peterson to visit Brainerd

WHAT: What Moves U childhood fitness program - The American Heart Association has joined forces with the Minnesota Vikings and the National Football League to establish the What Moves U program to encourage children to be physically active- part of the NFL’s Play 60 initiative to be active 60 minutes a day. The curriculum helps teachers incorporate physical activities into all courses, not just physical education class. Vikings Owner  Zygi Wilf, RB Adrian Peterson, Vikings cheerleaders, Viktor the Viking and others will demonstrate with students at Forestview Middle School Elementary School some of these activities, such as a spelling relay and football training exercises.

WHY:  Almost 16% of children and teenagers in the United States are overweight. The What Moves U program aids in the fight against this childhood obesity and strives to remind kids that being active and healthy can be fun.

Following the event at Forestview School, Vikings personnel will attend a luncheon hosted by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber and the Brainerd Sports Boosters at the Red Roof Inn from noon – 1:00 p.m (the event is sold-out). Wilf, Peterson and Vikings Radio Network broadcaster Paul Allen will address the audience about the Vikings community outreach efforts, the importance of high school athletics and the 2008 Vikings season. The Vikings will also present $1,000 contributions to the Brainerd Sports Boosters and The Warrior Way. Media are invited to attend both events. Wilf, Peterson and Allen will be available for questions at the Red Roof Inn from 11:45 a.m. – noon.

This event is part of the Vikings “You Made The Team” community tour started in 2007, which is designed to connect with Vikings fans, community partners and local leaders, while providing an update on the excitement of Vikings football.
