Last season’s NFL sack leader, Jared Allen is launching a new initiative called “Sack Diabetes.” This regular season, in each city where Jared plays he will donate $3,000 for every sack he records through his newly formed foundation to the local JDRF chapter. For every sack Jared records at the Metrodome, he will make a $3,000 donation to the Minnesota JDRF chapter.
Cities where the Vikings play this season include:
Date -- Team -- JDRF Chapter/Branch
9/8 -- Green Bay -- Northeast Wisconsin
9/28 -- Tennessee -- Nashville Chapter
10/6 -- New Orleans -- Louisiana
10/19 -- Chicago -- Greater Illinois
11/16 -- Tampa Bay -- Tampa Bay
11/23 -- Jacksonville -- Jacksonville
12/7 -- Detroit -- Greater Detroit
12/14 -- Arizona -- Desert Southwest
In 2004 after arriving in Kansas City, Jared had occasion to read a Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising letter sent to a friend by a family. He was moved—and has been an advocate and supporter of JDRF and diabetes research ever since.
“We’re thrilled to have Jared here in Minnesota. Not only have we gained a powerhouse on the football field, but we’ve gained a huge advocate of diabetes research. Jared makes the connection—he sees these kids with diabetes and understands how their lives will change when we have a cure. Best of all, he’s willing to help make that cure a reality,” said Jackie Casey, Executive Director of JDRF Minnesota.
