How do you follow a season-opening Monday Night Football contest against fierce division rival Green Bay at Lambeau Field? A home opener against Tony Dungy, Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, that’s how.

The NFL released its 2008 team-by-team regular season schedule on Tuesday and the Vikings will have to be on top of their game from the start, as their first two opponents combined for a 26-6 record in 2007.

Other highlights on the Vikings schedule include a Monday Night Football matchup with Saints in New Orleans on October 6 and a visit from the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants to close the regular season on December 28. The Vikings have a Week 8 bye, following a road game against the Chicago Bears and preceding a two-game home stand against the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers. The Vikings and Bears are scheduled for a Sunday night contest at the Metrodome on November 30.

The Vikings have two straight road games three times and will play consecutive games at home twice as well. In 2008, the NFL’s scheduling formula has Minnesota matched up with the AFC and NFC South.

All 2008 Vikings games can be heard on the Vikings Radio Network, including KFAN Sports Radio AM 1130 and FM News Talk 100.3 KTLK.
