Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress will address more than 1,200 Special Olympics athletes - and their parents and coaches - from across the state of Minnesota at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Games on Thursday evening at Bierman Field on the University of Minnesota campus.
In addition to Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress addressing the athletes, parents and coaches, there will be an athlete parade and the ceremonial lighting of the “Flame of Hope” by a Special Olympics athlete.
The 2008 Summer Games will be held from June 19-21 and events taking place include: track and field, volleyball, powerlifting and gymnastics.
In 2008, Special Olympics Minnesota (SOM) celebrates 35 years of champions. Since 1973, SOM has been enhancing the human potential and quality of life for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by offering year-round sports training and competition.
