College Coach Spotlight Preview

Ahhhhh September. The official end of summer comes much too soon each and every year in Minnesota. Or maybe summer just starts too late? Either way, September brings a change to many lives in Minnesota and beyond. Back to school for some, back to working entire Fridays for others, and for everyone… Football! Given the fact that you are reading this story on vikings.com, I can only assume that you are particularly interested in the latter.

And who can blame you? Fall means football. At least for me when the temperature starts to cool, the leaves begin to change, and football season begins, I am taken to my happy place. My happy place being on my couch in front of my newly purchased 50” HDTV with the wireless enabled laptop on the coffee table. It is this time of the year when I start to question whether all great technological advances were inspired by Sunday afternoons?

While Sundays in Minnesota may be reserved for much needed relaxation in your home or your favorite local establishment, it is my intention to bring some focus to the teams, and more specifically, the coaches, that represent the local college football scene. The College Coaches Spotlight will profile a local coach that has made a name for himself by ruling that other weekend day during football seasons.

Around the NFL, head coaches are becoming more and more visible and in some cases just as valuable as the superstars they lead onto the field each Sunday. And while you may be able to recognize the characters that roam sidelines around the country each Sunday, the majority of us (including this writer) are less informed when it comes to the guys leading the teams in our own communities and throughout Viking Land on Saturdays.

Throughout the season, I will be contributing a weekly feature focusing on local college coaches football philosophy and experience as well as personal and professional biographies. From Minneapolis to Northfield and St. Paul to St. Cloud and beyond, I look forward to exploring Viking Land and bringing a spotlight on the leaders of so many great programs throughout the area.
